There’s A AGod Reason Why To Buy Men’s Casual Shoes

Shoes are very important. Aside from nailing your fit, I think most men should invest in a few good pairs of shoes. It’s time to inventory your current shoe collection and decide what you need. A Gentleman Within a reader recently asked me what shoes every man should wear. It was a question I had been considering. Although it is open for discussion, it comes down to your personal preferences, age, and lifestyle.

Let’s move on. These are my 6 favorite stylish men’s casual shoes, plus a few more for good measure. Note This long post is so I converted it into a handy PDF you can download for free. Just enter your email and name, and I’ll send it immediately.

1. The Brown Brogue

Which shoe is first on your list? The brown brogue. It will soon be a staple in every man’s wardrobe. It’s stylish, versatile, and fashionable. Are you ready? Brogue is the Gaelic word that means shoe. Brogues are distinguished by unique perforations and punching along the uppers’ leather.

Brown Brogue Shoes: Where Can I Buy?

I suggest a quarter-brogue or semi-brogue in a dark brown for your first pair. You can also opt for a full brogue (wingtip), which is in a tan/cognac tone. This pair is guaranteed to make heads turn. So if you aren’t comfortable with the attention, go for a darker, more refined brown with minimal broguing. This will make it easy to transition into the world of brogues. You can pair them with jeans, chinos, and wool trousers.

The bottom line:

Brown brogues are an essential part of the smart men’s shoes wardrobe. You can wear it with well-fitting jeans, or down with a tailored suit.

2. The Suede Chukka

It is not as elegant as brogues but it is more formal than the sneaker. The chukka boots are the first dress-casual shoe. This gives them a lot of versatility. You can wear a chukka with a suit and casually with dark wash jeans and a light t-shirt.

Where to buy men’s chukka boots

The chukka, a basic shoe with open lacing and only two or three eyelets, is simple. This boot can be found in suede and leather.

For beginners, the Clark Originals Desert boot is a good choice. A suede pair is my recommendation, as the texture adds visual appeal and elegance to your look. A darker shade will give you more versatility and elegance, while a lighter color is more casual.

The bottom line:
Chukka boots can be worn casually or dressy. With chukkas, your options for casual wear are endless.

3. The Brown Loafer

Casual, comfortable, cool. They can be dressed up or down. Loafers should be your summer go-to. You can wear them all year, but who said you couldn’t?

Like the brogue or the chukka, loafers can be worn with casual and formal outfits. This versatility allows the loafer to slide in on my top.

Although loafers are not recommended for wearing with a suit, they look great with a sports coat, jeans, or chinos. You have the option of leather or suede here. The choice is yours: tassel or penny. Another great option is the horse-bit Gucci loafer. This Italian-made loafer has a metal strap across the front. You will be able to add a touch of sophistication to your outfit with this accessory. A suede driver like Monaco from the New Republic is a must-have.

Loafers For Men

Loafers are less formal than lace-ups. They come in leather or suede.

Let’s get to the bottom of it:
Loafers have been a summertime favorite. This is the classic weekend shoe. It’s easy to slip on and looks great.

4. The Minimalist Sneaker

Even the most elegant of men love to be casual. With casual fashion becoming increasingly popular, it is important to have a casual footwear option. The canvas sneaker can be worn for casual outings, such as at the ballgame or backyard barbecues.

Choose a pair that is neutral in color, such as white, gray, or beige. It will make it easier to choose what you’ll wear them with. Minimalist shoes in leather and suede will always be in fashion.

The bottom line:
The canvas sneaker looks great and is versatile. It’s your summer go-to when you want to keep it casual.

5. The Oxford and Derby

The obligatory Oxford, or Derby (also known as blucher), rounds out my top 5 running shoes. A black Oxford and Derby are typically the first formal shoes a man has. It was mine, I’m sure. However, it was square-toed. I don’t recommend that. I would recommend the Oxford or Derby with a rounded toe.

You might be curious about the differences between them. In simple terms, Oxfords have closed laces whereas Derbys use open lacing. Which is more formal? The Oxford. If you’re interested, this article will explain the difference.
